#TOTD of June 6th: Boom Clap by Charlie XCX

For fans of: Haim, Goldroom, Grimes

Unless you live under a rock, you’re well aware that The Fault in Our Stars hit North American theaters today, June 6. Right now, as you read this, there are thousands of people across the country sobbing in dark rooms as Gus and Hazel fall in love with each other (slowly, and then all at once).

I’ve read the book but I haven’t yet seen the film. The next best thing to seeing the film is listening to the soundtrack (right? sure), which I’m quite familiar with. With contributions like Ed Sheeran’s “All Of The Stars” and “Let Me In” by Grouplove, I was sold before I even pressed play. But since listening to the compilation, “Boom Clap” by Charlie XCX is the track that stands out to me the most.

I’m definitely not the first on to say this, but the song aligns perfectly with essence of Gus and Hazel’s story and the lyrics are faithful to the way John Green wrote the book. The music video is the cherry on top of an already delicious sundae. I love that it gives away bits and pieces of movie scenes, never showing too much. The majority of the video was filmed in Amsterdamn, which is a place that plays a very important role in the progression of the story so I was really pleased that they managed to tie that into the music video (a second cherry on the sundae, if you will).
