This is only the second Billboard Music Awards I have watched, and overall I was underwhelmed. When it comes to the show of celebs, it wasn’t as star-studded as it could have been. There was no Justin Timberlake, Beyonce or Taylor Swift which left a small void in my heart, to be honest. Despite the celebrity shortcomings, it should come as no surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed watching 5 Seconds of Summer perform. The Australian boys may not have gotten the introduction they deserved, but they delivered an energetic performance that really lifted but the entire show.
As for the fashion choices, there were a few that I truly fell in love with. Take a peek below…
Whether or not color blocking is “in” right now, I love when it pops up on the red carpet. It’s the reason I’m all but drooling over Lucy Hale’s form-fitting colorful lace number. The navy, yellow-green and pink color combo she donned with strappy heels is quirky and youthful. Plus, her hair was just the right amount of polished and tousled, which I think matches the formal yet fun feel of her dress.
Why not rock a hot pink mini dress before rocking out on stage in Vegas? With the mesh detailing paired with sky-high platforms, this look is 100% appropriate for the BBMAs. Her accessories were nicely muted to compliment the punchy color of her dress and her lipstick matches in the best way possible. Her side swept platinum hair puts the icing on top of cake.
I wasn’t aware that Alexa Losey (known for her beauty and fashion videos on her YouTube channel) would be attending the BBMAs, but it was more than a pleasant surprise to see her on the red carpet. She wore a black lace crop top and maxi skirt set that was just laid back enough for a BBMA attendee (and hopefully breezy enough considering the sweltering desert heat). Plus, her side braid and natural makeup made her entire look seem effortlessly pretty (and isn’t that what we all want when we get ready in the morning?). I also loved seeing how Alexa put the entire look together in her BBMA Get Ready With Me video.
I give Nicki Minaj, Jordin Sparks and Kylie Jenner honorable mentions for their red carpet looks as well. I think Nicki looks impeccable in fitted black, as does Jordin. I’m also super into Kylie’s blue hair and her willingness to show off a completely different style than any of her siblings.
